Weighting
The weighting of grade categories determines how strongly each category contributes to the overall average.
How Weighting Works
Each category has a weight (in percent). The weighted average is calculated by:
- Calculating the average within each category
- Multiplying each category average by its weight
- Adding up the weighted values
Calculation Example
| Category | Weight | Grades | Category Avg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exam | 50% | 2, 3 | 2.5 |
| Participation | 25% | 1, 2 | 1.5 |
| Homework | 25% | 2, 1, 2 | 1.67 |
Calculation:
Weighted Average = (2.5 × 0.50) + (1.5 × 0.25) + (1.67 × 0.25)
= 1.25 + 0.375 + 0.4175
= 2.04
→ Final Grade: 2 (Good)
Adjusting Weights
Weights are set in the grade categories under Settings. They can be changed at any time — the average is automatically recalculated.
Note
The weights don't need to add up to exactly 100%. EduGrade calculates the weighted average relative to the existing categories that contain grades.
